I got an early start on this room to help cope with the loss of my sweet Felix—my 15-year-old best friend. Finishing early meant I wrapped things up a couple of weeks ahead of schedule. Because of that, I skipped the final two weeks of the One Room Challenge. I was already done!
If you missed the previous updates, you can catch up on each week here:

What Is the One Room Challenge?
The One Room Challenge® is a biannual event held every spring and fall. Anyone with a blog or Instagram can join as a Guest Participant by registering the space they plan to transform. Registration usually opens about a month before the challenge begins. Each Wednesday for eight weeks, participants post updates and link their progress. It’s a great way to follow transformations and connect with others working on their homes.
I’m so excited to finally show you this space! From the moment we moved in, I knew the dining room would be my favorite. It’s where we sit down for real meals and actually talk to each other.
No phones allowed. Just food, laughter, and sometimes a cutthroat round of Yahtzee.
When we remodeled the kitchen, everyone suggested removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room. A more open concept, they said. But I stood firm. I wanted this space to feel separate—like its own moment. I’m so glad I stuck to that decision. Now it’s distraction-free, cozy, and perfect for hosting game nights with family.
Bringing the round table up from the basement was the best decision. It instantly made the room feel bigger and more welcoming. Plus, it encourages better conversation (and better game strategy).
Let’s Talk About the Color + The Filtered Truth
The wall color? It’s Tempe Star by Sherwin Williams, and I’m in love. I’m also glad I tested swatches for a full week before committing.
Blue is a high-maintenance color. It shifts depending on the light, the time of day, and the angle you’re standing. In short—it’s dramatic. If you noticed some heavy filters on my earlier posts—yep, that was very intentional. Blue is not easy to photograph, and I wasn’t ready to reveal the true color just yet.
But now? It’s go time. You’ll see what I mean in the photos below. And yes—all of them were taken at the same exact time. Blue really knows how to keep things interesting.
