When I was approached by the Saxon Inn Manager, Kristen, I was excited for 2 reasons. I couldn’t wait to decorate a hotel, one. And it was where I went to college, two. Normally when you think of a hotel, it’s the same old thing. This being an Inn, at an art school, I had a little more freedom. I was excited to get started.
The first score was the lobby and breakfast room. The Inn was built in 1990, and hadn’t been redecorated since. There was so much to be done. The beautiful new Phillip Jeffries wallcoverings were the perfect slate to start with. I knew that the lobby needed a wow factor and something to ground the room. I immediately knew that I wanted the fireplace to stand out. Adding stone to that, was just what it needed. The second thing I needed to do was add a little space for the guest computer. I used old Alfred, NY pictures (this is where the Inn is located, on the Alfred University campus) on a ledge and they couldn’t have turned out better.

Next up, Kristen’s office. Now, when I tell you that her carpet was green, the pictures don’t do it justice. It was greeeeeeen. We got her some new carpet and used the same carpet into the stairwells. (On another note — wait until I get those pictures done. The light fixtures are absolutely fabulous.) I chose the Adler desk, bookcase and file cabinets for her office to complement the carpet we chose.

The last on my list was the Executive Chairman’s Suite. This was my favorite. For budget reasons, we had to choose between getting new carpet or walls. We chose walls and I’m glad we did. The difference was stunning. I had new cornice boxes made, the fireplace redone and a mantle made. The new furniture is truly awesome in this room.
